Stolen goods, illegal firearm seized in Namakgale raid

Police raid recovered goods stolen in a Phalaborwa business robbery and uncovered an illegal firearm, leading to three arrests.

PHALABORWA -Namakgale police, working with the Phalaborwa VISPOL Unit, have arrested three men aged 31, 34, and 37 for possession of suspected stolen property, with one suspect also facing charges of unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition.

The arrests were made in the Majeje area on Wednesday morning (August 27).

In a statement, Limpopo police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba says Namakgale Detectives and members of Phalaborwa VISPOL acted on information about a bakkie spotted in Namakgale loaded with air conditioners.

The tip-off followed a reported business burglary in Phalaborwa.

“Officers traced the vehicle and, upon questioning the driver, learned that the air conditioners had been stolen in Phalaborwa. The suspect admitted to his involvement and agreed to accompany police to the location where additional stolen items were stored with the help of two accomplices,” the statement reads.

At a house in Majeje, police recovered electrical appliances, fridges, furniture, couches, and groceries believed to be stolen.

During the search, officers also discovered a 9mm pistol with its serial number filed off, one magazine, and 12 rounds of ammunition.

All three suspects were arrested and are expected to appear before the Lulekani Magistrate’s Court on Friday, August 29, on charges of possession of suspected stolen property.

One suspect will face an additional charge of unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition.

Police confirmed that investigations into the matter are ongoing.
