Wildlife crime crackdown in Giyani nets three suspects

Giyani police arrest three men after recovering crocodile remains and a dead vulture during a joint operation in Mbaula Village.

LIMPOPO – A joint police operation has led to the arrest of three men, aged between 29 and 38, for possession of game after officers recovered crocodile remains and a dead vulture in the Giyani policing area.

The arrests took place on Wednesday morning (August 27) in Mbaula Village during an operation involving Provincial STES, Giyani STES, and Sekhukhune KNP members.

The Limpopo police spokesperson, Colonel Malesela Ledwaba, says the team acted on information about suspected poachers in the area.

“Following the leads, officers arrested the suspects at separate locations in the village. During the operation, fresh crocodile skin and a dead vulture were recovered.”

The suspects then led officers to a site along the local river, where a full crocodile carcass with its skin removed was found.

The trio are expected to appear before the Giyani Magistrate’s Court on Friday, on charges of possession of game.

Ledwaba confirmed that investigations are continuing.
