Photography competition celebrates beauty of Marieskop
Kruger Foothills Lodge launches a Marepe Mountain photography contest for World Photography Day, open to all community members and visitors.

HOEDSPRUIT – In celebration of World Photography Day, Kruger Foothills Lodge has announced an exciting photography competition that invites community members and visitors to showcase the beauty of the Marieskop (Marepe) Mountain Range through their camera lenses.
The lodge, nestled in the foothills of the majestic range, is encouraging both amateur and professional photographers to take part by capturing unique perspectives of the iconic backdrop that has become synonymous with the area’s natural charm.
“This World Photography Day, we want to see how you view the beauty of Marepe,” the lodge stated in its announcement. “It’s about more than just taking a picture; it’s about telling the story of the mountain through your eyes.”
Participants are asked to post their photographs directly in the comments section of the official competition post on the Kruger Foothills Lodge Facebook page. The contest runs until September 18, with the winner being announced on September 19.
The winning entry will be determined by the number of “likes” the photograph receives. The prize includes a Kruger Foothills burger and hand-cut fries, a small but tasty reward that adds a local flavour to the event.

For Kruger Foothills Lodge, the competition is not only about photography but also about fostering a deeper connection between the community and the natural environment. The Marieskop range, often referred to simply as Marepe, has long been admired for its towering presence, dramatic contours, and cultural significance.
By placing the mountain at the centre of the celebration, the lodge hopes to inspire both residents and travellers to appreciate the area’s scenery while contributing their own creative expressions.
Unlike traditional photography competitions that require professional submissions or entry fees, this contest has been designed to be inclusive and accessible. Anyone with a camera or smartphone is encouraged to participate, making it a celebration of creativity that extends beyond the professional sphere.
As the countdown to the closing date begins, the lodge is anticipating a flood of images that will not only celebrate World Photography Day but also highlight the diverse ways in which people see and interpret Marepe.
“Show us the mountain through your eyes,” the lodge urged. “Let’s see the magic of Marepe.”
