HSA defeat Eagles in commanding Premier League victory
Hoedspruit Sports Academy delivered a commanding 115-run Premier League victory over the Eagles, marking sweet revenge after their 2023 defeat.
HOEDSPRUIT – Hoedspruit Sports Academy (HSA) finally got its long-awaited revenge this weekend, delivering a commanding victory over the Eagles from Polokwane in a Premier League clash that carried extra significance.
“It is incredibly satisfying to get our revenge after 2023,” said Mickey Buyst, HSA head coach. “The boys showed real character out there, both with the bat and ball. “
In 2023, during their very first year of existence, HSA made a remarkable run to the Promotional League final.
Their fairytale journey, however, ended in heartbreak when they were defeated by the Eagles, narrowly missing out on promotion.
Undeterred, HSA returned the following season with renewed determination. They once again reached the final and this time emerged victorious, defeating Potties Old Boys to secure promotion. The 2025 season marks HSA’s first campaign in the Premier League, and they have wasted no time making their presence felt.
This weekend’s fixture against the Eagles at Southern Cross Schools, their home ground, provided the perfect opportunity for a measure of retribution.
After losing the toss, HSA were sent in to bat, a decision that worked in their favour, as they were eager to set a strong target. The HSA batting line-up rose to the occasion, posting an imposing total of 277/9 in their allotted 50 overs.
Vic Breytenbach led the charge with a brilliant 99 off 100 balls, narrowly missing out on a well-deserved century.
He was well supported by Jacques Wolmarans, who smashed an impressive 84 off just 73 deliveries. Together, they laid the foundation for a formidable total.
Bowling in the extreme heat, HSA’s bowlers showed outstanding discipline and determination. They restricted the Eagles to just 162 all out, sealing a comprehensive 115-run victory.
Alexx Godrich was the standout performer with the ball, claiming an exceptional five-wicket haul for only 37 runs from his 10 overs. Sahil Patel also played a crucial role, taking three wickets in nine overs to tighten HSA’s grip on the match.
HSA thanked Southern Cross Schools, BF Fuels, Energy Management Group, Tile Africa, OnTap, Michem, Huegah Coffee, and Coastal Hire for their support.
