Help Kayla zoom in on her wildlife dreams

From childhood curiosity to professional eye, Kayla Daniel needs your support to continue capturing the quiet beauty of wildlife.

LIMPOPO – From an early age, Kayla Daniel could almost always be found with a camera in her hands. What began as a simple childhood curiosity soon developed into a deep passion for photography, particularly capturing the quiet beauty of wildlife and nature.

Early passion in Hoedspruit sparks a love for wildlife

Kayla spent part of her childhood in Hoedspruit, where her family lived for five years, first at Makalali Private Game Reserve and later in town.

Surrounded by wildlife and the natural beauty of the Lowveld, it was here that her fascination with animals and nature truly began to grow.

She attended Southern Cross Schools in Hoedspruit until Gr 4, and her family says it was during these early years that her love for wildlife first became clear.

Even as a young child, Kayla showed a natural eye for detail, often photographing small moments others might overlook.

Over time, that curiosity developed into a deep dedication to wildlife photography.

Professional equipment opens new doors

In 2024, Kayla completed her studies at Open Window, where she worked tirelessly to develop her photographic style and creative voice.

During her studies, she had the opportunity to hire professional Sony equipment for her projects, including the powerful Sony FE 200–600mm f/5.6–6.3 G OSS lens, a specialist lens designed for wildlife photography.

Using professional equipment allowed Kayla to explore wildlife photography on a completely new level.

With the lens’s impressive reach, she was able to photograph animals in their natural habitats while maintaining a respectful distance.

The cost of following a dream

Her parents say the experience confirmed what Kayla had long believed, that wildlife photography is more than just a hobby.

“It has always been clear that Kayla sees the world differently through her camera,” said her mother, Chris Daniel.

“She notices the quiet moments in nature that many people miss.

“Watching her grow and develop her talent has been incredibly special for us as a family.”

However, professional wildlife photography equipment comes at a high cost.

While Kayla has completed her studies and is set to receive her diploma, the family still needs to settle the outstanding tuition fees required for the qualification to be officially issued.

In addition, Kayla hopes to purchase the wildlife lens she used during her studies so that she can continue building her portfolio and pursue a career in wildlife photography.

A final push to turn passion into a career

Despite years of supporting their daughter’s dream through hard work and sacrifice, Kayla’s parents say these final costs remain a challenge.

The family has now launched a campaign in the hope of raising funds to help cover the outstanding tuition and to purchase the specialist lens she needs to continue her work.

“Any support would not only help with her studies, but also place the right tools in the hands of a young photographer who truly loves capturing the beauty of the natural world.”
