Murder accused found hiding under bed after absconding from court

A 27-year-old murder accused who failed to appear in court was found hiding inside the base of a bed during a police operation in Lephalale.

TZANEEN – A 27-year-old murder accused who absconded from court has been arrested during an intelligence-driven operation conducted by Villa Nora Detectives, Villa Nora Crime Prevention, and Lephalale members.

Found hiding inside bed base

He was arrested in the early hours of Thursday (June 11) in Lephalale, where he was found hiding inside the base of a bed.

He is accused of fatally stabbing a man following an altercation at Shongoane 2, Elele Section, on September 28, 2024. The victim lost his life.

The man was initially arrested and spent about 11 months in custody before the matter was struck off the court roll pending further investigations.

Warrant issued after court no-show

He was later summoned to appear before the Lephalale Regional Court but failed to attend, resulting in a warrant of arrest being issued.

Linked to separate robbery and intimidation case

Further investigations linked the accused to a case of common robbery and intimidation that occurred at Abbotspoort in the Lephalale policing area. He allegedly robbed a young woman of her cellphone and threatened to kill her.

He is expected to appear before the Lephalale Regional Court on Monday, June 15.
