Active ageing day gets Letaba seniors moving
Athletics, relays, soccer and rugby ball throwing gave Greater Letaba seniors a chance to socialise and learn about Alzheimer’s disease at Kgapane Stadium.
LIMPOPO – Senior residents from across Greater Letaba Municipality gathered at Kgapane Stadium for the annual Alzheimer’s Awareness and Active Ageing Day, promoting healthy lifestyles, physical activity and social interaction.
Sport and play fill the programme
The event featured a range of sporting and recreational activities, including 100m to 800m athletics, rugby ball throwing, jukskei, ring the stick, ball passing, soccer, relay races, duck walking, pegging clothing pegs and the brick wall challenge.
Socialising and awareness go hand in hand
The programme also provided an opportunity for senior citizens to socialise, build friendships and remain active, while raising awareness of Alzheimer’s disease and other conditions affecting older people.
Held in collaboration with the Limpopo departments of Social Development and Health, the event promoted the health, dignity and quality of life of older persons and encouraged them to remain active and involved in their communities.
