Thato gets full marks for Mathematics

The world is an oyster for Thato Mailula (17) who attained 300 out of 300 marks in Mathematics in his Grade 12 final exam.

He is one of the best performing learners at St. George College and in the region; he received six distinctions in total.
On Friday, January 20, he was one of the learners who were honoured by the MEC for Education, Mavhungu Lerule-Ramakhanya at the Ranch Hotel
outside Polokwane.

He was one of only five learners who received full marks in Mathematics in the province and as a result he received a certificate and a gift bag which
included a laptop and other gadgets. Mailula told the Herald that Maths has always been his favourite subject. “I worked very hard to achieve 300/300, I worked on past papers to make sure that I master the subject,” he said. “I also attended extra classes to gain more knowledge,” Mailula added.

Mailula said that he was aiming for 100%, but only managed to achieve it in the final exam. He attributes his achievement to prayer, support of his teachers, Kumbirai Chikavhanga and Clifford Washaya, and his family. Born and bred in Relela village in Bolobedu South, he attented primary school at Lighthouse Academy and spent all of his high school years at St.
George College. “My advice to the current Grade 12 learners is that the amount of work you put into your school work will be evident in the final marks,” he concluded.
