Gravelotte netball team heading to nationals

The Gravelotte Primary School u/13 netball team (photo below) has qualified to go to the national netball championships.

This transpired after they were first runners-up in the provincial games which were held in Polokwane on Saturday. Their journey to the finals began when they smashed Thambazimbi 17-6 in the quarter finals, proceeding to the semi-finals where they won by one goal against Pietersburg-Suid 12-11. In the finals they were beaten 8-11 by Pietersburg-Oos.

Fortunately their second position afforded them the opportunity to be the second team representing Limpopo in the games which will be held in Boksburg at Laerskool Concordia in August. Coach Geraldine Coetzee told the Herald that it has been a tough season for the Gravies, but she is happy about their dedication and commitment to the game.

Their excellent performance commenced earlier in the season when they won the Phalaborwa Cluster League and further won the Mopani District League until the provincial stages. The u/12 team (picture top) also had an exciting season. They also won the Phalaborwa Cluster League, ended as runners-up in the Mopani District League and battled their way to the Limpopo Champs.

They came second in their pool and lost in the quarter finals against Louis Trichardt with one goal 8-9. Coetzee concluded by saying that her girls proved to her how good they really are and she is excited about what the future holds for the team.
