Team Limpopo excels at the National Indigenous Games Festival in Margate

Congratulatory messages are pouring in for Dinah Mafumo from Lulekani Matiko Xikaya after she won a gold medal in the Morabaraba sporting code.

She attained her medal at the National Indigenous Games, which took place last week at Kwazulu Natal in the Ugu District Municipality. The Ba-Phalaborwa Local Municipality has also applauded Mafumo for her exceptional performance and for putting forward the Ba-Phalaborwa and Limpopo Province flags. Limpopo MEC for Sport, Arts and Culture, Thandi Moraka congratulated the Limpopo Team for Indigenous Games for a splendid performance at the 2022 National Indigenous Games.

The Limpopo Indigenous Games team took second place overall at the National Indigenous Games Festival recently. The team brought home eight gold medals in various indigenous sporting codes.

The National Indigenous Games Festival recently occurred in Margate, Ugu Municipality, in KwaZulu-Natal Province. The anniversary games are held under the theme: “My roots, my pride, my future”. The Limpopo team took second place overall and, in the process, won many medals. Team Limpopo won four Gold Medals in Ncuva, two gold medals, and one silver medal in Morabaraba, one gold medal in Diketo, Drie Stokkies, one gold medal and one bronze medal in Khokho.

In total, they won eight gold medals, one silver medal, and two bronze medals. The formidable team showed perseverance, dedication, and resilience in all the sporting codes throughout the tough 2022 National Indigenous Games Festival. The games are aimed at celebrating heritage, promoting unity and diversity within communities, and preservation of indigenous traditional games.

“We are proud of Team Limpopo for Indigenous Games for scooping position two at the National Games. The team performed excellently and represented Limpopo well, though the competition was tough against their counterparts from all the provinces in the country. Congratulations and well-done Team Limpopo Indigenous Games,” said MEC Thandi Moraka.
