Gravies crowned the Elite Cup Challenge champions

Gravelotte Primary School’s (Gravies) u.13 soccer team was crowned the 2022 Elite Cup Challenge winners on Saturday, October 29.

The games were held at Fauna Park Primary School and were organised by the Phalaborwa Football Club.
The event was a battle between Gravelotte, Fauna Park and the Phalaborwa Football Club.
The first game was between Gravies and Fauna Park, Gravelotte won the game by 4-0, where two goals were scored by Jan ‘JJ’ Nkuna and one each from Lunghisani Mbombi and Risima Hlungwana.

Terron Maswanganyi, Coach Brian Phungo, Jan (JJ) Nkuna and Ntshovelo Mathye.

The second game Fauna Park won 6-1 against Phalaborwa Club.
At the finals Gravies smashed Fauna Park 3-0 granting them the pleasure of being called the champions.
Risima scored two goals for his team, while Ashley Mathonsi scored one.

Player of the tournament was Jan Nkuna (Gravies); Best Defender was Ntshovelo Mathye (Gravies); Best Goalkeeper was Terron Maswanganyi; Striker of the Tournament was Kabelo Ngoma (Phalaborwa Football Club) and Midfielder of the Tournament was Miyelani Ndhove (Phalaborwa Footbal Club).
Gravies soccer coach, Brian Phungulo told the Herald that he is excited about the win as it is his first cup as a soccer coach and a teacher.

I’m proud of my boys for the sportsmanship that they showcased during the games.
“There was a period where we played with nine players due to red cards, but that did not stop them they forged ahead and in the end they managed to win the game .
“With little training time, the boys played excellently.

“I would like to applaud them for a good job done and I would also like to thank the school management for all the support, the parents for releasing the kids for the games and also Phalaborwa Football Club,” he concluded.
