The right-arm medium-fast bowler and handy left-handed batsman became a professional cricketer at the age of 16. He played 689 first-class and list-A matches in his career between England, South Africa, and Sri Lanka. He ended his playing career with 1165 first class and list A wickets and scored 8704 runs during these matches. His coaching career began in 1983 when he coached Paul Roos High School until 1986.

With over 30 years of coaching experience at both first-class and international levels, some of his coaching jobs include Pakistan U19 bowling coach; head coach for Al Masafi Amo Sharks in Afghanistan, and bowling consultative and marketing of overseas sports teams for Northwest University among other positions.

“I believe I do well in talent scouting and nurturing raw talent. I have produced more international bowlers than any other coach, including, but not limited to the likes of Kagiso Rabada, Christopher Morris, Marco Jansen, and Wiaan Mulder, he said. He told the Herald that he is excited about the new appointment and is looking forward to a great journey with the team. He commenced his duties with the Limpopo team on July 1.
