Limpopo Impalas in the running to win the league

Limpopo Impala Cricket Club player and former Ben Vorster High School learner, Artwell Mokgolobotho, says being on top of the log in Cricket South Africa’s (CSA) Division 2 is a huge milestone for his team.

“Being in the first position of the league means a lot to us as a team and for me as a player, I have dreamed of a moment like this since joining the team. “We are not only playing for ourselves but for other people too. Although we had many challenges, we managed to pull through as a team,” Mokgolobotho says. The club came out tops after winning by 63 runs against the Eastern Storm recently.

All this transpired during a CSA four-day tournament at Willowmore Park in Benoni, from January 11 to 14. In the first game between the two teams, the local team won by 33 runs scoring 157. Eastern Storm could only manage to score 124 runs. The second game between the two teams ended with the Impalas putting up a score of 216 runs and the Storm 186.

On the first day, the Eastern Storm, with 104/6 on the scoreboard, chased a target of 250, as the Impalas needed four wickets to win, defending 146 runs, when the match was interrupted by rain and the players left the field due to bad light. The local players were impressive on the pitch, with Liam Peters scoring a century with 119 runs and Jesse James taking five wickets for 55 runs in 12.3 overs.

The team is left with one match which they will play soon and a win will officially make them CSA’s Division 2 champions.
