Phalaborwa police play soccer against GBV

Phalaborwa and Letsitele SAPS played a friendly game to raise awareness about GBV, aiming to stand against and eliminate it.

LIMPOPO – Phalaborwa SAPS beat Letsitele SAPS 3-1 during a recent soccer match to put gender-based violence (GBV) under the spotlight.

During the event at Lulekani Stadium, Sergeant Reoh Mabunda, chairperson of Limpopo Men for Change, addressed the male police officers on GBV before the match.

Men for Change is an organisation founded by male police officers in the fight against GBV. They meet on a regular basis to talk about troubling matters for the men in blue.

Topics covered include how to deal with depression, domestic challenges and becoming responsible parents and partners. Mabunda said the SAPS have channels and platforms where employees can reach out for assistance whenever they encounter challenges.

“We always encourage our colleagues to open up and talk about problems that they encounter whether at home or at work. We don’t want a situation where they take their own lives, while there are people available to assist. Meetings such as this gives us an opportunity to discuss and open up as colleagues,” he said.
