Rikhotso a former News Anchor and Author, once again raised the province’s flag after winning a gold medal at the Gauteng North Masters Athletics at the Pilditch Stadium in Pretoria last Saturday.

He was awarded a gold medal for sprinting in the 100m with the time of 15,17 seconds and in the 200m in 33 seconds on the 64-69 age category.

In 2017 and 2018 Rikhotso became the Mopani District Champion in the Golden Games’ 200m race.

He then proceeded to the provincial competition where he got the second position two years in a row at Pater Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane where he clocked 29.9 seconds.

He is currently a member of the Ritavi Cross Warriors Athletics Club founded by Gladstone Shabangu at Nkowankowa Township.

“Rikhotso definitely deserved to win, because he is diciplined and dedicated to his running.

“I was shocked by his commitment to the sport, because Ihave been working with many people thoughout the years, but to get someone at his age who is focused is an inspiration to me also,” explained Shabangu.

Shabangu told the Herald that the two have had an agreement that this year they are going for a national gold in the Golden Games later this year.

Rikhotso has been working as a Xitsonga News Anchor for three decades before he could retire in 2013, he is also an award winning of 18 Xitsonga books.

In 2015 he was awarded an honarary Doctorate of Philosophy in Literature for his contribution in the development of the Xitsonga Language.
