Gladstone a national champ once more

Police Constable, Gladstone Shabangu won three medals at the SAPS National Athletics Championship in Bloemfontein recently.

He won gold in the men’s long jump with a jump of 6,89m and he won another gold in javelin with a distance of 50,05.

Shabangu also participated for the first time in the men’s high jump where he received a silver medal by clearing a height of 1,85m.

He says he never gets used to winning and everytime he wins he gets excited.

“To me it’s a great bounce back from four months of nursing a knee injury, which I picked up at last year’s SAPS National Athletics Championship,” he explained.

The champ has earned a spot to go to Angola later in August to represent SAPS at the Southern African Region Police Chiefs Cooperation Organisation.

One thing for sure, the sky is the limit for the local athlete.
