New team, new challenges for Alan Gordon

Alan Gordon starts 2026 with CVNR Sports, balancing mountain biking, running, and swimming while mentoring young riders.

TZANEEN – After nearly a decade at the forefront of competitive cycling with Tzaneen-based team Insect Science, Alan Gordon is now racing under the banner of CVNR Sports.

Focus shift to triathlon and duathlon

Gordon says this comes after a shift in focus to explore his versatility as an athlete.

Transitioning into multi-discipline sport, he has begun exploring triathlon and duathlon, adding to his long-standing strength in mountain biking.

“I went into 2026 with a new team, a new headspace and a new adventure on the horizon,” he says.

“Having the ability to add different disciplines to my training has been amazing.

“Running has always been a passion for me, and swimming is definitely growing on me.”

Strong early-season performances

Racing alongside teammates Herman Fourie, a former Stanford Lake College learner, and Keegan Tullis, Gordon has already delivered an impressive string of performances in the early part of the year.

A strong third overall finish at the Barberton 110km Ultra Marathon, seventh place at the Auto & General X-Tri South African Championships, third place in the sub-veteran category at the same championships, first place at the XTERRA Duathlon, and first place at The Wik Memorial Triathlon X-Tri.

Mentoring young riders

“I took on the new team to allow other young riders to ride in a bigger team.

“My role will be to guide them and also do the races that I want to without putting too much pressure on myself,” he concludes.
