Mopani branch hosts regional sport shooting competition
The Mopani branch hosted a sport shooting competition in Phalaborwa, showcasing top marksmen and women across multiple disciplines.
PHALABORWA – The Mopani branch proudly hosted the Limpopo Regional Sport Shooting Competition on April 11 at the Phalaborwa Shooting Range, drawing marksmen and women from across the province for a day of precision and competitive spirit.
Multiple disciplines tested at 20 metres
The event featured a range of shooting disciplines, all conducted at a distance of 20 metres.
Competitors took part in centrefire pistol, centrefire revolver, rimfire pistol, rimfire revolver, air pistol, and the highly competitive handgun open class.
Each category tested participants’ accuracy, focus, and technical shooting ability under standardised conditions.
Van den Heever and Cronjé lead centrefire pistol action
In the centrefire pistol category, Tobie van den Heever secured first place with a strong and consistent performance, followed by Phillip Lowe in second and Paul Cronjé in third.
Cronjé, however, made a strong comeback in the rimfire pistol event, where he claimed first place, with Van den Heever taking second and Heila Meredith finishing third.
Liebenberg and Meredith shine in rimfire and air pistol
The rimfire revolver competition saw Phillip Liebenberg rise to the top, earning first place ahead of Van den Heever in second and Cronjé in third.
In the air pistol category, Heila Meredith delivered an impressive performance to claim the top spot, followed by Ben Vorster in second and Liebenberg in third.
Meredith dominates multiple categories
Meredith continued her dominance in the centrefire revolver event, where she secured another first-place finish. Cronjé placed second, while Gavin Meredith took third place.
Her exceptional form carried into the handgun open class, where she once again finished first, capping off a remarkable day.
Anika Liebenberg claimed second place in this category, with Phillip Liebenberg finishing third.
Strong display of skill and sportsmanship
The competition highlighted not only the high level of skill among Limpopo’s sport shooting community but also the camaraderie and sportsmanship that define the sport.
Participants demonstrated discipline and dedication throughout the event, making it a memorable occasion for both competitors and organizers.
Organisers praise turnout and development of sport
Tyron Cass of Phalaborwa expressed satisfaction with the turnout and performance levels, noting that such events play a vital role in developing and promoting shooting as a sport in the region.
