Frans du Toit u/14 netball team qualifies for nationals in Gauteng

Years of dedication and development have paid off for a young team now preparing for a major national tournament.

PHALABORWA – Frans du Toit High School’s u/14 netball team is heading to the national schools’ championships in Gauteng this August after an impressive performance at the Limpopo Championships held at Hoërskool Ben Vorster over the weekend.

From provincial contenders to national qualification

The team secured second place and took home a silver medal after winning all their matches en route to the final, where they narrowly lost 12–8 to Pietersburg Hoërskool.

A dominant unbeaten run through the early rounds

In the group stages, Frans du Toit recorded convincing victories, beating Frikkie Meyer 12–7, Altein 14–0, Retuimetse 13–4, and Curro 15–4.

They maintained their strong form in the knockout rounds, defeating Piet Potgieter 23–7 in the quarterfinals before edging past Tom Naudé 14–11 in the semifinals.

Coach reflects on journey from player to national qualification

The u/14 coach Ayonda Ceko described the achievement as historic for Frans du Toit High School. She said that the last time the school qualified to play at the national championship was in 2007, when she herself was a first-team player.

“This is incredibly special for me,” said Ceko.

“To relive this moment now as a u/14 coach is something I will always treasure.”

Community support behind the team’s success

She added that she is extremely proud of the team as they prepare for the national championships in Boksburg.

“Their dedication, teamwork, and determination have made the entire Fransie family proud.”

Ceko thanked the team’s sponsors: TJ Malamulele for assisting with accommodation, Sibuyi Dental for providing energy drinks, fruit, and water, and Semaj Pty Ltd for sponsoring one of the players.

“Thank you for believing in our team and helping make this journey possible,” she said.
