Update: Merc driver to court

Gerald Viljoen (40) lost his life in February this year during an accident on the Hendrina road.

The driver of the Mercedes with whom he collided, disappeared from the scene.

He reported the accident hours later after he arrived at an emergency room for medical treatment.

According to reports he claimed to have woken up in a veld near Hlalamnandi, confused and injured.

Almost six months after Mr Viljoen’s death, the driver of the other car has been summoned to appear in court.

Mr. Viljoen’s widow, Jacqui, claimed that she was phoned and threatened by the man whom she holds responsible for her husband’s death.

She has since moved from their old home to a new address after the man allegedly visited her house and stood outside her gate hooting.

Mrs Viljoen also claims that she has been able to establish that he was driving without a licence at the time.

The man has been identified by Middelburg Observer readers as the head of emergency services at a Power Station in the area.

It has been confirmed that he is scheduled to appear in court on 28 August, two days before Gerald Viljoen would have turned 41.

“We are falling apart. I cannot sleep at night, my son is struggling in school. This is a nightmare. I know some of Gerald’s family say that they have forgiven the man who killed him. But I will only find peace once he is brought to justice,” Mrs Viljoen said.
