Update: No bail hearing yet

The men allegedly busted with ecstasy worth R85 million will have to wait a little longer to formally apply for bail in the Middelburg court.

Gregory Craig Ayres (45) and Valeri Nikolov (41) were arrested near the Middelburg Toll Plaza on the N4, two weeks ago. Police discovered bubble wrapped envelopes containing hundreds of thousands of ecstasy tablets in the form of purple ghosts.

This is the second time the duo had their bail application postponed. State prosecutor Ansie Venter requested the postponement, stating that the investigation was still ongoing.

Since their arrest, three other men were arrested in Durban, and two properties were searched. It is claimed that a house in Westville and a warehouse in Stamford Hill both contained chemicals and equipment used to manufacture drugs. The investigation are led by the Hawks and Intelligence units.

Their legal representation, attorney Van der Merwe and adv Gideon Scheltema, did not oppose the postponement.

The men will appear in court again in December when a provisional date for bail application will be determined.

A source has said that the accused offered to pay millions of Rands, give up fixed assets as security and report to a police station three times per day in order to be released on bail.

Three other accused Gareth John Bisset (40), Sakhile Dlamini (28) and John Mupumulu (32) were set to appear in the Pinetown Magistrates Court this week.
