Update: Murphy in Carolina court

Keagan Dexter Murphy, who was found guilty on charges of dealing and attempting to bribe a police officer, will in all likelihood be sentenced in Carolina next week.

Murphy was found in possession of 34 kg of crystal methamphetamine in June 2012. The drugs were hidden in built-in compartments in the

Ford Territory he was travelling in. Records showed how he, and his employer only known as Kabelo, crossed the Mozambican border several times in two different vehicles.

Murphy said in a statement that he had to take the vehicle across the border to Maputo, where it was handed over to someone unknown to him.

He usually waited a few hours in a hotel in the Mozambican capital, before receiving the vehicle back and returning to South Africa.

Murphy was arrested when the court adjourned after judgement. He will most likely find out just how long he will have to spend behind bars with his next court appearance next week.

The sentencing procedures have been moved to Carolina because that is where magistrate Andreas Mastoroudes, the presiding officer in the matter, will be sitting next week.
