The deceased, Mr Pieter Sipho Nene, was visiting a friend in Hexrivier Street when the tragedy occurred.

“We got a call on Sunday morning that my brother passed away. It was a great shock to us,” said Ms Dorothy Nzimande, sister of the deceased.

The friend of the deceased, who was visiting on that fateful Sunday, told the family that they were sitting and chatting, when out of nowhere, the suspect vame and threatened to kill Mr Nene.

“They thought he was joking, until he broke a beer bottle and stabbed him 17 times and then smashed his head with a brick!” added Ms Nzimande.

Mr Nene was declared dead on the scene.

The killer fled and has not been seen since.

Mr Nene leaves behind his mother, aunt, two brothers and a sister.

“We will miss him dearly, especially his nephews and nieces. He was a kind man who always offered a helping hand,” said Ms Nzimande.

Mr Nene will be laid to rest in Carolina on Saturday at 08:00.
