Video: Mpumalanga businessman shot seven times at close range

Shocking video footage of an assassination attempt of a well known Mpumalanga businessman has surfaced - just weeks after it is widely believed police have made a breakthrough arrest of the main suspect.

Saleem Patel – who owns hardware and retail stores situated in Malelane, KaMhlushwa – was shot seven times from close range just after Friday prayers on 28 August 2015. He survived the ordeal and spent three months recovering in hospital.

The video footage, obtained by www.mobserver.co.za, shows the exact moment a man jumps out of a car, approaches Patel at close range and pumps seven bullets into his body. He then rushes back to his car and flees the scene.

Mpumalanga Hawks spokesperson, Captain Dineo Sekgotodi, was unable to immediately verify claims that a suspect was arrested and appeared before the Tonga Magistrate’s Court.
