MMC hijacked at Ackerville
The MMC for Infrastructure and Service Delivery at the Steve Tshwete Municipality, Johan Matshiane, was hijacked in Ackerville, eMalahleni, on Monday evening.
Two armed men threatened to shoot him before stealing his red Audi A3 Quattro Sportback, two cell phones and two laptops that were inside the vehicle.
Speaking to the Middelburg Observer, Cllr Matshiane, who is also Ward 7 Councillor, said that when he alighted from his vehicle he never suspected a thing.
“I went to Ackerville as I had an appointment to see someone in that area. I got to the house, parked outside, and as I got out of the vehicle two males approached me,” he said.
The men threatened to shoot him if he screamed. They then grabbed both his cell phones and argued among themselves as to whether they should kill him or not.
“I was scared for my life. One of the suspects said that he will kill me now, but the other refused and said that this is my lucky day”.
The suspects then fled the scene with the Councillors car.
“As soon as they left I started to scream and got the attention of neighbours, who rushed outside and asked me what was happening. I explained what had just happened and asked if I could borrow someone’s phone so that I could call the police. I was then taken to the Vosman SAPS to open a case”.
Cllr Matshiane said that he was not hurt during the incident but still feels traumatised.
“I’m still shaking,” he said.
Police are investigating the matter and are yet to make any arrests.
