ACCC flags Woolworths acquisition of PFD

Woolworths is a multinational retail giant which caters for a cross spectrum of consumer needs while expanding its business interests.

This popular retail brand recently announced its plans to spend approximately $552 million to acquire PFD Food Services. PFD is a wholesale food distributor which specialises in buying products from manufactures and distributing them to restaurants, cafes, fast food franchises, hotels and clubs.

This business move has attracted the attention of the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) who feel the proposed acquisition will increase Woolworths already substantial bargaining power in its dealings with food manufacturers.

The final decision on the matter will be announced on  21 April 2021.
