According to the driver who identified himself as Ndindi Nyama, the wires to the truck cut on the way.

“It was dark and we had to pull over and try to fix it. Traffic officials arrived on the scene and escorted us to the bridge until the problem has been sorted,” claimed Nyama.

The Observer inquired about the unsafe journey with Pamela Mkosi of the municipal traffic department. She refuted the claims of any knowledge by traffic officials and went to investigate.

The truck and trailer full of mattresses, fridges, blankets, planks, stalks of 20 litre tins and tyres stood at the same spot on Monday afternoon.

“We will not let the truck move until the load is decreased, if the people refuse to comply with us, then we’ll have to impound the vehicle,” said Me. Mkosi.
