Residents face fines for not adhering to water restrictions

The Steve Tshwete Municipality has warned that residents not adhering to water restrictions could face fines of up to R1 500 per incident.

The message was sent this morning to all residents of town via SMS.

Although no specific restrictions are in place, the municipality stated that anything considered to be wastage of water could be viewed as a violation.

“Residents have to adhere to a usage limit of 20kl a month. As long as you are within that limit you should be safe. Anything over that limit could be fined,” the municipality said.

The SMS stated that Middelburg Dam is at 49,79% and that this is very low, and urged residents to save water.

It was added that any pipe bursts should be reported to 013 249 7168/1656 or 083 570 4430.
