Update: No water in many parts of town

Water supply to most parts of town remains completely off or at very low pressure at municipal workers remain at the scene in Liter Street trying to fix a pipe burst.

There was no immediate word by Thursday morning as to exactly when the supply would be restored.

The pipe burst occurred twice in two days – on Wednesday morning and again on Thursday morning – and affected several parts of town including the industrial area, Eastdene, Minerala and Central. Late on Wednesday afternoon Midmed Hospital reported critically low water levels.

According to unconfirmed reports, municipal workers had sabotaged the water reservoir. However, this could not be independently confirmed.

The municipal workers strike was officially called off on Wednesday night following an agreement between the municipality and SAMWU.

All services are expected to normalize by the weekend.
