Fox Channel apologizes to Observer

Fox Channel has apologized to the Middelburg Observer after painting over an advert of the newspaper logo on an advertising wall situated in Chromeville, Mhluzi.

A FOX LIFE Channel advert, was painted over the Middelburg Observer logo on the wall illegally about six weeks ago. The municipality ordered the advert to be removed and the Middelburg Observer logo was repainted on the wall.

A couple of weeks later it was again repainted to advertise FOX LIFE.

The spot in dispute has been paid for by the Middelburg Observer and has featured the newspaper logo on the wall for several years.

Zali Nxibi of the company Mindshare, who are responsible for the advertising on behalf of DSTV and other satellite providers, issued a formal apology this week. “We sub-contract the advertising to other companies and in this instance it appears they got it wrong,” he said.

They have also promised to repaint the Middelburg Observer logo as it was originally.
