Cleanup operations are a futile exercise as building rubble and household trash seems to multiply overnight.

Most of the culprits caught on camera have the same excuse – they did not know that it was illegal to dump their trash there.

Yet it is common knowledge that it is illegal to dump waste, be it building rubble or household, in any area other than the allocated municipal dumping grounds.

Currently there are two dumping grounds, one next to Dennesig, which only accepts household and garden waste, and the main one next to Mhluzi.

The Middelburg Observer received numerous photos of culprits.

Municipal Manager Mandla Mnguni, says that the municipality is in the process of addressing the problem. He said that they are aware that it is becoming a huge problem, especially next to the old Belfast Road.

Mr Mnguni asked for all photos to be forwarded to him personally so he can send it to the municipal legal department for fining and the consideration of other legal steps.
