Update: Written warning for sleeping police
The policewomen and man who were found sleeping on duty, got a slap on the wrist by receiving final written warnings.
The Observer published photo’s of the sleeping women and man earlier this year.
The group, three women and a man, were sound asleep in the radio control room when a resident went to the police station on 28 August to report that another police official was sitting in an idling vehicle for more than an hour at Summerset Gardens.
When he knocked on the window, the person did not respond and he went to the police station because he was concerned that there might be something wrong with the person in the vehicle.
When he arrived at the station, he could not find someone at the front desk and went to the control room, where he found the group asleep.
• The person did not want to report the sleepers to superior officers, because he was scared of retribution and brought the photos to the Observer.
• The police’s media desk this week stated that the investigation is finalized and that it is recommended that final written warnings be issued to the members.
