Video: Security guards must move
Visitors to patients at the Middelburg Hospital had free access to the gate, because the security guards refused to do their work.
One of the guards called the journalist of www.mobserver.co.za yesterday morning (Monday) and asked that we must come and speak to them.
Everybody was working from 06:00-10:00, but then the Top Ten Security Company (for whom they work for) arrived.
Five guards were instructed to start immediately at the Witbank Hospital. At the same time, guards from the Witbank Hospital were told to take their place in Middelburg.
All the guards were furious and refused to exchange places, whereafter they started a protest action at the gate of the hospital. They also opened the boom gate at the hospital and showed visitors to come and go freely.
“Come in and go and have a look what is happening in the hospital! We won’t stop you. We can not secure the safety of the patients and staff of the hospital if we are treated like this” they told the journalist.
One of the female guards said that she could not work in eMalahleni, because she has small children in Middelburg. “We also have to pay taxi money from Doornkop to Middelburg, eMalahleni is even further!”
• Top Ten management promised the journalist that they will call her as soon as the problem is resolved.
