Lights out in Middelburg – Municipal phones keep ringing

Middelburg residents have been plunged into darkness since yesterday evening after power outages.

Complaints are pouring in from readers stating that no one can get through to the Steve Tshwete Local Municipality to report it.

Information has been received that Kanonkop, Aerorand, Middelburg Mall, Middelburg Ext. 33 and Tokologo have all been affected.

Steve Tshwete Local Municipality informed www.mobserver.co.za in an sms notification that as a result of the power outages, the Vaalbank water purification plant could not purify or pump water to the reservoires.

The estimated restoration time is said to be anything between five to eight hours.

www.mobserver.co.za has tried to make contact with municipal spokesperson, Prudence Magutle, however still await a response.
