#TrafficAlert – Stoffberg/Groblersdal road closed due to protest action
A peaceful protest, wherein local residents are blocking the R33 (Stoffberg/Groblersdal road), is currently underway.
According to someone on the scene, black and white members of the community joined hands to block the road in protest against the shocking condition of the R33.
The road was earmarked for an upgrade but things ground to a halt shortly after construction began. Parts of the tar surface have been removed and heaps of soil and asphalt have been left in the road without warning. The dangerous road conditions have caused many accidents and claimed several lives.

Residents who are forced to use the road on a daily basis say that they have had enough. They are now awaiting a provincial government representative to address them.
The protest affects the R33 as well as the Loskop gravel road. Traffic is severely backed up.
• Earlier today, at around 06:30, the N4 was blocked at the Sudwala turn-off that leads to Schoemanskloof. According to Moeti Mmusi, spokesperson for the Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison, the road was reportedly blocked by Joubert & Seuns workers.
He reported at 08:22 that the road was open but advised motorists to approach the area with caution.
