SA teams withdraw from International 7’s rugby Tournament

The xenophobic attacks on foreign nationals in Johannesburg has caused turbulence in trans-African relations, resulting in two South African rugby teams withdrawing from an upcoming tournament.

It was released in a statement that both the JHB Bobbies and the Blue Bulls 7’s rugby teams, pulled out from an International tournament being held in Zambia, at the last minute.

Louis Roos, one of the Bulls players, stated on social media that the team had already boarded their plane to Lusaka, when the union pulled them back after receiving threats of violence from the public in Zambia, upon their arrival.

The statement further read that the Tournament organizers had announced their support towards the public in standing against the xenophobic attacks taking place in South Africa, and that the two rugby teams have decided to withdraw from the tournament, out of respect for Zambian sentiments.
