UPDATE: SAPS confirms Optimum conveyor belt destruction caused by veld fire
Hendrina police confirmed that the devastating fire that reduced embattled Optimum Mine's conveyor belt line to ashes, was caused by a veld fire and not arson.

Police also confirmed that rumours that the mine’s offices were also set alight, was false.
Millions in damage was caused on Sunday afternoon when the rubber conveyor belts of Optimum caught fire.

The fire started in the grass next to the conveyor line.
The Steve Tshwete Municipality fire brigade contained the fire which destroyed the belt line.
Www.mobserver.co.za has tried contacting business rescue practitioners, Louis Klopper and Kurt Knoop, to ascertain the extent of the damage but both remained unreachable.
