The accident took place just after 06:00 this morning, between the Bethal and Van Dyksdrift offramps, when the driver of a Hyundai H1 lost control of the vehicle and veered into oncoming traffic.

According to a survivor, the driver of the H1 was headed in eMalahleni’s direction when he swerved into oncoming traffic, striking two cars.

Emergency personnel are currently at the scene, where an investigation is underway, and the lanes heading east have been closed.
Members of the fire brigade are busy freeing entrapped casualties and the road is expected to remain closed for some time.

It cannot be confirmed what condition the survivors are in.
