The Life Midmed Hospital held a routine emergency evacuation drill this morning, which saw staff members practicing patient evacuations with a heavy presence from the Middelburg Fire Brigade.

Residents who witnessed the affair from a distance grew concerned that a fire had broken out at the hospital.

The staff of Midmed came together in the parking area of the Witkerk, where roll call was conducted.

In a matter of minutes, the drill was over and the staff got back to business.
