Covid-19 screening numbers unavailable

Home-to-home screenings are continuing, with several areas under the belt and many more remaining to be visited.

According to the Department of Health, Aerorand, Gholfsig, Clubville, the CBD, Extension 3, 5 and 6 in Mhluzi, Extension 24, including Nasaret and Hlalamnandi, Tokologo, Doornkop and several communal complexes in Middelburg have already been screened for signs of Covid-19 infections.

The eight teams will focus on Matatiele, Chromeville, Extension 18, Mineralia and Kanonkop during the entire week.

Spokesman Mr Christopher Nemvele says the department is presently conducting home-to-home screenings in all districts of Mpumalanga.

In Middelburg the screening has not identified anyone with Covid-19. With a soft lift on lockdown regulations after April 30, Mr Nemvele says positive cases are expected to climb.

Mpumalanga’s infection numbers are stagnant, with only 23 confirmed cases so far.

Mr Nemvele says the department is busy compiling statistics on how many homes in the Nkangala region have been screened, but the information will only be available later this week.

“Ongoing screening makes it difficult to accurately compile exact statistics, and screening is set to continue,” Mr Nemvele said.
