Police crack down on residents who flout lockdown regulations

More than 90 people have been arrested since May 5 for flouting the lockdown regulations in Middelburg.

The majority of arrests were due to residents failing to confine themselves to their homes.

Seven illegal immigrants were arrested and five residential burglaries were reported.

• On May 10 a business burglary occurred in Rockdale at 10:00.

According to the police report, the shop owner, who happens to be a foreign national, was at the police station after being arrested for operating his shop without a permit.

While the man was at the police station he received a call that his store was being broken into.

The police escorted him to the spaza shop and while they were there the man noticed that a duplicate key had been used to gain entry into the shop.

The unknown suspect got away with R3 000 and airtime.

• Another business burglary occurred in Jeppe Street at HNR Services, 11 tyres, engine parts and a laptop were stolen.
