According to a media statement released by the Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Mondli Zuma, the shooting took place in Breyten, where the couple lived, on 21 June.

Police found themselves at a grizzly scene, after being dispatched to the incident, finding the police officer (45) and his wife (35), in the home both fatally shot.

According to information, the couple were involved in a heated argument, which prompted the officer’s wife to move out.

She had called on two of her brothers to assist her with vacating the house, when the officer shot and wounded her two brothers, before dragging his wife inside to shoot her and himself.

The two wounded brothers were rushed to hospital for medical treatment, and an inquest was opened including a case of murder and two counts of attempted murder.

•The police officer was later identified as the well known Ben Mnguni, also known as Chicken.
