Driver killed in Kranspoort Pass milk tanker crash

The driver of a fully loaded milk tanker passed away after crashing the truck in Kranspoort last night.

The accident occurred at around 22:00.

The tanker flew over the barrier wall close to the first arrestor bed on the second Kranspoort bend.

The tanker was not visible from the road but was found by Van Wettens recovery specialist Louwtjie Swart, who is currently on the scene.

Mr Swart says the pass might be closed for the recovery.

Van Wettens is waiting for the traffic department to secure the scene.

The double-barrelled tanker had a full load of milk on board when it crashed. Initial reports that another tanker overturned, ferrying acid, are untrue.

Hard rain also contributed to low visibility, resulting in Van Wettens scheduling the recovery for today.

The deceased has not been formally identified yet.

Mr Swart said he would give updates on the road closure when the recovery commences.
He urged motorists to approach the pass with caution.
