First sight of snow in Middelburg – Long Tom Pass still closed

Middelburg experienced a brief glimpse of snow last night in Aerorand and Groenkol as the national cold front is set to continue.

Areas across Mpumalanga such as eMalahleni, Belfast, Lydenburg, Ermelo and Volksrust were covered with snowfall.

The weather forecast for the rest of the week will see the freezing conditions continue with a low of 0°C expected on Thursday and lows of 2°C continuing until Sunday morning, according to Apple Weather and AccuWeather.

Safety is a major concern, as many on the roads in the region are not accustomed to these conditions, with multiple vehicle accidents having taken place on the N4/N12 split and the Long Tom Pass between Sabie and Lydenburg still closed due to vehicles being stuck in the snow.
