Dashcam footage shows N4 truck crash near Middelburg

Risky overtaking and heavily loaded trailers spark fresh safety fears among residents after dramatic close shave on N4 near Middelburg.

A truck and a bakkie towing a trailer loaded with tyres crashed into a roadside barrier after an overtaking manoeuvre on the N4 near Arnot.

The footage was sent anonymously to the Observer after the crash yesterday.

According to the unverified footage, the bakkie attempted to overtake the truck on a narrow section of the highway where roadworks were underway.

The video appears to show the bakkie driver losing control during the manoeuvre and swerving into the truck’s path, resulting in both vehicles crashing into the barrier.

Video reveals narrow escape

The footage shows the moment the driver of the truck missed crashing into a stationary truck on the side of the roadway as the bakkie driver overtook and subsequently jackknifed in front of the truck, causing the barrier crash.

The sender further claimed that both the bakkie driver and the truck driver escaped without injuries, but these claims have not been verified.

The Observer previously reported on the crash after the truck crashed into the roadside barrier.

The latest footage provides further insight into the moments leading up to the collision.
