Driver and side-tippers missing after R1,3 million theft

A Durban-based transport company is still searching for a missing truck driver and two side-tipper trailers after one of their trucks was found abandoned near Bethal.

According to Tyrone Gardiner, the insurance investigator representing the company, the disappearance of the trailers and truck driver was flagged by the tracking system last week Friday.

The company has since informed the driver’s family, who opened a missing persons case with the police.
No word from the driver has been received and the two side-tippers are also still missing.

Mr Gardiner confirmed that the value of the side-tippers consists of R800 000 for the pair while the load of coal that was being transported values to R500 000, leading to a total loss of R1,3 million.
