Athletics MP triumphs over SA Champs

Athletics Mpumalanga participated in the South African Cross Country Championship in Port Elizabeth on September 16.

Despite the cold weather and wind speeds up to 90km/h, the athletes still managed to bring home the following medals:

Bronze:

Keagan du Preez (Boys 9, 2km) 07:22; Brand du Plessis (Boys 12, 3km), 10:18; Gabriël Joubert (Men 75, 4km), 21:56; Lika Olivier (Youth Women, 2km), 07:08.

Silver:

Lu-Mari du Plessis (Girls 15, 4km), 14:37; Sheba Sithole (Youth Women, 2km), 07:07.

Gold:

Musawenkosi Mnisi (Junior Men, 8km), 25:11.

Athletics Mpumalanga also won the following team medals:

Boys 8 (1km) – silver:

Stian Pretorius (03:43); Neil Gouws (03:53); Luhan Steenkamp (03:55); Keagan van Eeden (03:56).

Girls 15 (4km) – bronze:

Lu-Mari de Plessis (14:37); Ava Oosthuizen (15:49); Duhane Walker (16:06) Danielle Lamprecht (16:40).

Men 35 (8km) – bronze:

Jetro Sithole (27:27); Ryno van Vollenhoven (27:45); Macaleni Mahlangu (28:12); Pienaar Janse van Rensburg (28:40).

Women 45 (4km) – silver:

Eulicia Jefferies (16:51); Chantal Middel-Boveè (17:24); Amanda Ligthelm (18:06); Hannelie Jurgens (19:20).

Men 55 (8km) – silver:

Abednego Shongwe (30:38); Simon Mashiloane (31:55); Lucas Mahlangu (32:08); Linda Magqabi (37:06).
