Prisoner dead after freak accident unclogging blocked drain

The offender was busy unclogging a blocked drain when he was killed in a freak accident.

A reliable source just confirmed that an inmate at the Middelburg Correctional Services facility in Hoop Street had been killed less than two hours ago.

Police are still on the scene investigating the freak accident which claimed the life of the male offender.

According to correctional services the offender was busy unblocking a drain in the prison facility when he slipped and fell.
Attempts tor rescue the offender from the drain was unsuccessful and unfortunately he died.

According to correctional services the investigation just started and no further information is available yet.

It’s unclear if the man drowned in the blocked drain he was attempting to unblock.

Correctional services is currently busy tracing the man’s family to inform them of the accident.

An empty ambulance was seen driving from the prison ground where correctional services personnel gathered outside.

Police declined to comment on the scene and no formal police or correctional services reports have been compiled or released.
