Eastdene pillar shot to death, sister assaulted in brutal home invasion

The Eastdene community is overcome with sorrow after the senseless murder of a husband and father.

Ahmed Mohammed was gunned down in the safety of his home and his sister assaulted by armed robbers a short while ago in Oos Street.

Mr Mohammed’s sister, Maimoonah, who lives on the same premises as Ahmed and his wife and kids, told the Middelburg Observer that a group of suspects entered the property where they first accosted live-in employees who were bathing at the time.

The suspects raised their firearms at the employees before entering into the main house where Mr. Mohammed was home with his wife.

Maimoonah heard screaming followed by gunshots, which spurred her into running from her residence towards the house.

The armed men then accosted her, hitting her in the face with a firearm as well as wrestling with her.

She sustained significant abrasions to her face during the altercation.

The suspects then fled with Mr. Mohammed’s black Toyota Etios, registration: FVC 769 MP.

According to members of the Noodroep Radiogroep Sector 3, a silver Polo was also picked up on surveillance footage, and is believed to be the suspect vehicle.

Eight suspects were reportedly involved.

Outraged neighbours who had to endure the traumatic screaming were furious with the late arrival of the SAPS after one police vehicle finally arrived half an hour after being dispatched.

“Three police vehicles could be seen speeding past Oos Street,” one neighbour said.

Ahmed Mohammed is the father of young children.

Community spokespeople from Eastdene who all rushed to the scene, further declined to comment requesting privacy for the family.

Anyone who has any information that could assist in the arrest of the suspects is urged to contact the Middelburg SAPS.
