Columbus confirms death of driver

Columbus Stainless announced the untimely passing of a sub-contractor driver of one of the manufacturer's carbon steel scrap suppliers.

The incident, which occurred on 27 February 2024, is a tragic reminder of the critical importance of safety in the workplace.

At Columbus Stainless, the safety and well-being of employees, contractors, and suppliers is important and a first priority.

“We extend our deepest condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of the driver, whose identity is being withheld out of respect for their privacy,” CEO Johan Strydom said.

Following the incident, an immediate investigation was launched in coordination with the Department of Labour Inspectors, the South African Police Services and all related parties to determine the cause and circumstances surrounding the tragic event.

In light of this tragic event, Columbus Stainless is reviewing its existing safety measures and procedures to identify areas where enhancements can be made.

“We remain dedicated to continuously improving our safety practices to prevent future accidents and further safeguard the well-being of our workforce and business partners,” said Strydom.
